Reducing operational risk in an industrial maintenance platform
An industrial equipment manufacturer depended on a maintenance platform that had outgrown its original design. We mapped the risk, stabilised the platform and put controls in place that the client now runs itself.
- Client
- An industrial equipment manufacturer
- Sector
- Industrial manufacturing
- Services
- Operational risk management, Custom software development
Results
- Fewer priority-one incidents
- 45%
- Before versus after the engagement.
Context
Field engineers relied on the platform to schedule maintenance on equipment in service internationally. Outages were becoming more frequent, and nobody owned a complete picture of why.
Approach
We traced recent priority-one incidents to their root causes and grouped them by system, supplier and process. Most traced back to a small number of brittle integrations and undocumented manual steps.
We rebuilt the most fragile integrations, introduced monitoring that alerted on the conditions that preceded outages, and wrote runbooks with the client’s operations team so recovery no longer depended on individual memory.
Outcome
- Priority-one incidents down 45%, with faster recovery when they occur.
- Monitoring and runbooks owned by the client’s operations team.
- Controls the client now runs and reviews itself.
